UK mum’s… wondering about baby check ups?
Does your baby have check ups? Last time I saw the health visitor was when Lukas was exactly 5 months old and she came round, weighed him, asked how much milk he has and left! Not heard from her since and he’s nearly 7 months.
I’ve taken him for his vaccines, but that’s just the nurse sticking a needle in and sending us home! I just wondered do we get check ups?! Like a 6 month check up? And do you have to book it or do you get a letter? Maybe my imagination is running away with me as all the baby emails I get (probably American) say vaccines take place at check ups. Is baby care over here just a case of going to baby clinics every now and then for weighing or am I missing something? Please help!
How do I approach my friend regarding her baby’s health?
Yesterday, a friend brought her baby to my house. I noticed right away that her baby, who is one month old, looked a little yellow (her skin and the whites of her eyes) which to me suggests jaundice. Then, I changed her diaper and she had a green, thick, slimy discharge coming from her vagina. This friend is one of those people who thinks she knows everything there is to know as a first time mother, as does her husband. Besides that, she thinks her baby is perfect in every way. I have a feeling that by telling her, she will somehow feel like I am being mean to her and stop talking to me. Then even after that, she still probably won’t take the baby to get it checked out! Any suggestions? I have the baby’s best interest at hand, so I am tempted to just tell her and take the risk of her not speaking. But more than anything I feel like I will just be wasting my breath because like I said, I can tell her and she still won’t take her in! HELP!!!
Alright so the health nurse came yesterday to check on me and my baby…?
She comes every 2 weeks now, my baby is 4 weeks 1 day old. She asked how much my baby was drinking since shes bottle fed, and i said between 4 tp 5 oz. And her eyes went wide! I felt like i was doing something wrong. She looked at the other nurse, and they both stared at each other wide eyed. So i said, ‘Is that not enough? I try and give her more but shes gd with that.. Its slowly increasing though.. ” And they looked back at me and said ‘Wow that’s a lot, shes only 4 weeks. But if she wants it then…”
I feel like im doing something wrong? Is it normal for my baby of 4 weeks, to want that much? Ididn’tt think it was such a problem…?
Also i had them look at her belly button because itsextremelyy out. So the nurse went wide eyed again (yay :/) and she said it feels hard and it looks like a hernia? And that the Dr will have to look at it and make sure its safe and ok. So now im worried… Her belly button is getting bigger and bigger and when she pushes on her stomach or her legs go up it pops out more!
She groans a lot, so could it mean that shes in pain? Her Dr appointment is on Friday so yes i will discuss this with her! But what will they do if it is a hernia?
